OKLAHOMA CITY (June 16)

The rape and sodomizing of a 4 year old child...is there any lower life form than that?

As well as doing an internship with the Public Defender's office, I volunteered as a Court-Appointed Special Advocate in juvenile court and it's a sad statement of our legal system that it can't do more to protect our children. This is largely based on the fact that young children, typically, don't have the ability to LIE (that is until adults intervene) and they lack the "adult" skill of articulation; thereby, causing their "testimony" to raise more questions and issues than it resolves. This is why criminal law, although, the one area of law I was most interested in, made me absolutely sick and in fear of damaging or losing my soul & spirit.

What I can tell you, with near 100% certainty, is that this isn't the first time this old-ass piece of toxic waste has violated a child, after all what better "prey" than an innocent child? But the public outrage, although justified, is misplaced and totally off point. The point, although disturbing, is that our legal system is based on the right of the accused to be confronted with the witnesses against him/her, thereby, allowing the accuser to "question" said witnesses. How is it ever "fair" to have a 5 year-old stand witness against an adult, deviant, lying child molester? People want to believe that our legal system is based on "justice," "truth" or "fairness" but it's not, it's based on who can tell the better story which is draped in legal argument. That's our legal system.

Sadly, everyone in this particular case is aware that, if freed, this monster will violate another child. The question is not when but how many more victims he will lie in wait. One year, although appalling, is better than allowing him to walk the streets in search of another child. Hopefully, others (and there are others!) will come forward where the statute of limitation has not expired, allowing the prosecution to build a strong enough case to put this subhuman piece of garbage under the jail where he so deservedly belongs. Better yet, maybe while in prison for his one year..."justice" will be had. Now that would, indeed, save lives as well as taxpayer dollars.

Do you agree with the outcome of this case?

Do you know a child who has testified against an adult?
